Lehreraustausch Black River Falls High School - HLW Ried

Aus der langjährigen Freundschaft zwischen unserer Frau Direktor Prof. Auer und dem Direktor der Black River Falls High School in Wisconsin heraus entstand die Idee eines Lehreraustauschs zwischen unserern beiden Schulen.

Sarah Halverson, die Family and Consumer Education unterrichtet und Karl Wallin, Professor für Englisch, besuchten unsere Schule vom 1. bis 13. März 2009, hielten Unterrichtsstunden und nahmen an Projekten teil. Am 12. März wurde das Projekt "Check your health" des 1. ALG vorgestellt. Ein Fragebogen zu Ernährungsgewohnheiten wurde mit Sarah und Karl in die englische Sprache übersetzt und wurde nach ihrer Rückkehr von Sarah mit ihren Schülerinnen und Schülern auf unserer Website ausgefüllt. Die Ergebnisse sind im Menüpunkt "Projekte" einzusehen.

Am 12. März gratulierten wir außerdem Karl zum Geburtstag! Dabei gab er gemeinsam mit Herrn Prof. Jungmayr und Sängerinnen unserer Schule eine Kostprobe seines virtuosen Könnens auf der Gitarre und als Sänger - von Folk bis Pop. Wir waren begeistert!

Beherbergt und verköstigt wurden unsere amerikanischen Gäste von Frau Direktor Prof. Auer, Herrn Administrator Prof. Bichl und einigen Lehrerinnen, allen voran von Dipl.-Päd. Gabriele Hödlmoser und Mag. Gabriele Eisl, die vom 13. bis 27. März 2009 den Gegenbesuch antraten und an der Black River Falls High School unterrichteten.

Diese internationale Zusammenarbeit war nicht nur für unsere Projekte sehr produktiv, sondern der intensive Kontakt mit "native speakern" spornte auch im Englisch-Unterricht enorm an - aber vor allem haben wir Sarah und Karl wegen ihrer unkomplizierten, kommunikativen und humorvollen Art ins Herz geschlossen und dürfen mittlerweile Sarah herzlich zur Geburt ihres Sohnes gratulieren!

Sarahs Eindrücke von ihrem Besuch:

"The experience here at Ried has been an amazing one. My first impression of the facility and surrounding area was absolute amazement. Then I stepped inside to greet and meet the staff, they were so professional and passionate about the education of the students. This was very evident in the students' attitude and positive behaviour.

The focus of the Service and Culinary program exceeded my greatest expectations. The hands-on activities I witnessed students doing in the service/culinary classes/labs is what most American College students take part in. I thank the staff and students for the warm welcome and generous hospitality. You should be very proud of the amazing School you have!"

Karls Eindrücke seines Aufenthalts an der HLW Ried am Wolfgangsee:

"It is difficult for me to put into words my impression of your country, your school and the people I met during my brief sojourn there. I learned so much about the country's history, architecture, politics and school system. The landscapes of Austria are breath taking and the hospitality of the staff and students will have a lasting impression on me for the duration of my life. I cannot express either orally or in the written word the gratitude I feel toward the staff of your school for making me feel so welcome and for making it possible to experience Austria in a way that would not be possible without their generosity of time, home and money. I truly had the best experience of my life and cannot think of any other time in my life that two weeks passed by more quickly or with more memories.

Danke for the birthday party, delicious cake and wonderful songs. Be proud of your students, they were very good examples of how people should welcome guests: Congenial and courteous, polite and respectful.
